
Peter is admitted to practice in all Courts of the State of Michigan; U.S. District Court, Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan; U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Peter has been elected or appointed to the following boards and commissions: Additionally, Peter has lectured or served as a guest speaker for Northwestern Michigan College; the Institute for Continuing Legal Education; and the Michigan Association of Petroleum Landmen. He has also been published in the Michigan Bar Journal (1987 & 1999) and in Michigan’s Oil and Gas News. He is also a Mediator/Case Evaluator for Otsego County Circuit Court, Gaylord, Michigan. Peter is a recipient of the Sigma Gamma Epsilon Earth Science Honorary Award (1966) and was named Historian of the Year in 2000 by the Grand Traverse Pioneer and Historical Society. Peter enjoys sailing, skiing (downhill and cross-country) hockey, bowling and golf. He is married to Diane and has three sons.
Peter obtained his Bachelor of Science, majoring in geology, with Honor, from Michigan State University (1966) and his Juris Doctor from Detroit College of Law (1974).
The major emphasis of Peter’s practice is Contract Law, Real Property Law, and to a lesser extent Environmental and Corporate Law. He represents and counsels both corporate clients and landowners in litigation and contract negotiation and preparation, including conveyance, easement and mortgage preparation. His real property and environmental practice has included an extensive oil and gas law practice and encompasses an administrative law practice before the Michigan Public Service Commission, Supervisor of Wells, the Natural Resources Commission and the former Air Pollution Control Commission. Peter also represents clients in matters before the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality related to oil and gas and environmental issues, and also represents clients with Michigan Department of Natural Resources involvement. He has represented clients involved in real estate disputes, development, environmental, zoning and other real property issues throughout the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. He has extensive experience in title examination and curative work, which is supplemented by nearly three years prior employment as an abstractor of title and one year prior experience as a surveyor's assistant. Prior to obtaining his law degree he was employed as a geologist/geological engineer by Shell Oil Company (5 years) and Michigan Consolidated Gas Company (3 years).
